Spring Concerts Benefit The Tide Ministry

Music features prominently in scripture, and in the Old Testament we often see musicians at the forefront in a variety of situations. King Jehoshaphat had a choir leading his army into battle, and in literary fashion this spring The Tide ministry has had musicians leading the charge as we continue in the spiritual battle to win souls for Christ and build the Kingdom of God in the hearts of people around the globe. During the month of April the Cumberland Valley Christian Choir presented a cantata entitled “Blessed Hope” in four different venues. Audiences across central Pennsylvania were treated to a spiritually uplifting time of inspiration and worship, and were challenged to grow in their own faith, and to give generously so that others may come to know Christ. The choir takes nothing from the offerings collected at the concerts for their own use, but instead each year designates the entire offering to a ministry organization, We are extremely grateful that his year the Cumberland Va...

From the Mailbag: India

Each quarter we recieve many letters from our listeners on how The Tide has touched their lives. Know that your support  does  make a difference in people's lives all across the globe. We hope that you are encouraged by these letters. Full names and locations are not included to protect identity. I did not know anything about the Lord. There were many problems in my life. When I started listening to 'Ujjna Gahi Dahare' radio program in my own language in 'Kurukh' through the servant of God in my neighborhood, since then there has been a change in my life. After listing to the word of God and through prayer, I have been relieved from my personal problems. Now I also believe in the Living God. Kindly continue to uphold me and my family in your prayers. -  Tirkey I am a new listener and it is my first letter to you. Last month I got a chance to listen to this 'sShanti Data' radio program on Sunday evening. I belong to a non-Christian (Hindu) family. My f...

Have You Heard? Challenge helps Christians Obey Jesus' Command to Make Disciples

Image
About 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, but only 8 percent achieve success in keeping them through the end of the year.  In fact, reports Statistic Brain, just 64 percent keep their resolutions past one month, and only 46 percent stick to them for six months. But The Tide® global radio ministry has a suggestion for a resolution worth keeping in 2017. This year—and every year—The Tide ministry is focused on obeying Jesus’ command to make disciples, which is why it has issued a creative challenge for Christians. The “Have You Heard?” initiative urges Christians to be aware of all those who cross their paths every day and may be without the hope of Jesus Christ. “How many people do we pass by every day who do not know Jesus?” asked Don Shenk, director of The Tide ministry. “The answer is probably too numerous to count. That’s why The Tide ministry is reminding people to speak up about Jesus by urging them to accept our ‘Have Yo...

Christianity in Nepal is Thriving Inspire of Increased Persecution

To give context of our update, the following is a summary of a story originally published on  Christianity Today : In April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude  earthquake  struck Nepal, after which eight Christians from Nepal were invited by a pastor to do trauma counseling for children at their school. Shortly after, these Christians were wrongly convicted of trying to convert the children. (There is freedom of religion in Nepal, however one is not allowed to try to convert anyone.) The Christians were detained, but were released on bail shortly after; and in December 2016, a Nepali court dropped the case against the Christians. This incident was the first freedom of religion dispute since Nepal’s new constitution that deemed the country secular. However, according to Lok Mani Dhaka, a member of the Nepali Parliament, “When the time came to pass the drafts constitution in parliament, major parties built a consensus that secularism means the state should protect the traditional maj...

Amagugu Evangeli First Quarter Update

Praise the Lord, Amagugu Evangeli Radio Ministries is thriving!  In addition to producing Sunday service programs, which have the biggest audience to date, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has invited Amagugu Evangeli to produce thirty 5-minute morning devotions. These are now airing for free because of being produced based on the mutual benefit of getting Christian content. Also, all of their Sunday services are re-broadcast on-line following their on-air broadcast. These are then available for free to audiences through  Soundcloud . Alongside of these programs, Amagugu Evangeli is producing 5-minute daily broadcasts and distributing them through the app Whatsapp. This is a cheaper means of using technology, reaching an audience average of 600 every day, and allowing people the chance to interact with broadcasts and ask questions. Amagug Evangeli is currently working in conjunction with their Brethren in Christ Church Oversee...

The Tide Ministry Looks Back on 2016 and Ahead to 2017

The past year has been a busy and exciting time for The Tide ®️  ministry, as we celebrated our 70th anniversary while continuing to pursue our mission to creatively share the Good News of Jesus Christ worldwide through media and partnerships. Through God's faithfulness and your support, we were able to make great progress in 2016 on a number of initiatives to help us tell more people around the world about Jesus. In 2015, we began an Albanian radio outreach in two major cities in Albania, and also in one city in neighboring Kosovo, where Albanian is the official language. The many positive responses from Albanian listeners prompted us to make it a goal for 2016 to add another day of programming in each of these countries. Praise God that we not only added another day of programming, but are now also airing the programs in a third city in Albania and a second city in Kosovo! Albanian listeners can now hear the Gospel more frequently, and we are reaching new believers th...

What's in a Name?

Image
How do you feel about the name your parents gave you? In North America most people are quite happy, and maybe even proud of, their given names, but for a significant number of girls throughout India, that is not the case. The cultural mindset of many Indian parents values the life of a male child over that of a female. A common perspective there is that boys are assets and girls are liabilities. Consequently, girls in India are commonly given names that convey the meaning of “unwanted,” causing them to feel worthless and to struggle with self-esteem. Recently, efforts to address this issue in India resulted in a renaming ceremony in which hundreds of Indian girls were given the opportunity to choose new names for themselves. It is encouraging to see that district health officials, recognizing the detrimental and potentially devastating health effects of living with a negative label, were willing to confront cultural tradition by allowing girls to choose names that expres...

Prayer for Indigenous Pastors

Image
This week we want to encourage you to pray for the indigenous pastors and leaders in India , Nepal , Nigeria , Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe . They are in need of education, resources, encouragement, and support as they take on the important task of reaching out to their own nationalities and share the important message of God’s love to their own people. The Tide works hand in hand with indigenous church groups, church planters, and evangelists to plant and nurture new congregations. One issue we are facing today is a need to provide indigenous pastors and spiritual leaders with the education and resources needed to reach their communities with the Gospel of Christ. Did you know? • There are 196 countries in the world. 86 of those countries prohibit or restrict western missionaries. • There are appx 285,000 indigenous missionaries serving in the world, making up 2/3 of the world’s missionary force. • 99% of people in the US, Canada, and UK can read at write by the age ...
