The Tide® Offers New Hope in the New Year Through Gospel Radio Programming Around Globe

With Christmas now passed for another season, many Christians look for ways they can glorify God in the new year. T he Tide ®  is no different, as the 71-year-old organization continually searches for and prays about new ways to reach listeners with the hope of Jesus Christ—especially in the new year. “We rejoice that the Lord has touched so many lives through The Tide in 2017,” said Director Don Shenk. “Now, as we look ahead to 2018, we know God has much in store for this ministry that had humble beginnings in a small Pennsylvania town. Today, The Tide ministry reaches listeners in eight countries through 25 heart languages. But in reality, so many more are impacted because many of The Tide radio programs can also be heard online, making their reach virtually limitless.” For example, Xhavid from Greece listens to gospel programming from The Tide every week online and says that he is so thankful for the local pastor’s messages. “I understand the Word of God better and I have learne

Christmas Letter

We spend the whole year declaring the Gospel message and God’s gift of salvation for all mankind, but there is something special about devoting a specific time every December to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the foundation, source and author of our salvation! As I write this greeting to wish you a wonderful and blessed Christmas celebration, I also want to thank you for all you have done to enable The Tide ministry to declare the hope of Christ to people living in spiritual darkness. Just last month, Becky and I were in India visiting with the leaders and staff of the Good News Hour radio ministry. We were joined by some of our ministry partners from Zimbabwe and Thailand for a wonderful time of sharing and learning together. Our time there coincided with a Hindu religious festival during which idols were carried to the river and either set adrift on makeshift boats or simply thrown into the river. Although I don’t know all the complexities of this ritual, it brought to mind the pas

The Tide® Blessed to Celebrate True Joy of Christmas With Listeners Worldwide

Christmas is right around the corner, and as Christians everywhere celebrate Jesus’ birth—the true reason for the season— The Tide ®   is blessed to share about His life with radio listeners around the world. “We are grateful that God allows us to reach millions of potential listeners in eight countries through 25 languages, as we tell them why Jesus came to Earth as a babe in a manger—to ultimately die for their sins and give the gift of eternal life,” said Don Shenk. “Regardless of the persecution some of these listeners face, they can hold onto the true joy found in Christ this Christmas.” For example, Ilirjana from Switzerland listens to the Albanian Radio 7 broadcast, which is also available online to listeners in other countries. The mother of three reported to The Tide ministry that her husband is not a believer and she has little opportunity to meet other Christians. But, she says, “I am so thankful for the online programs that you are broadcasting. I listen to Pastor J regu

Representatives from The Tide Meet Joyful Christians in India

Representatives from The Tide ® recently returned from a visit to India, where the ministry has shared the Gospel over the airwaves for nearly 40 years. “It’s wonderful to visit somewhere new but coming home makes you appreciate your blessings,” Director Don Shenk. “In India, team members from The Tide ministry were able to interact with those who help produce and broadcast the ‘Good News Hour’ radio ministry. We were joined by some of our ministry partners from Zimbabwe and Thailand for a wonderful time of sharing and learning together.” Both of these partners took away something different from the trip, Shenk said. The team members from Thailand found their time in India to be very beneficial, as they learned ministry strategies they can adapt and apply as they grow their outreach to the Isaan people of Thailand. Leaders at The Tide ministry are praying that this budding partnership in Thailand will take root and thrive, bringing many more people to faith and hope in Christ. “Th

Zimbabweans Celebrate in the Streets After Resignation of President

After a tense time of political unrest, the people of Zimbabwe are celebrating now that former president Robert Mugabe has resigned. This news marks a fresh start for Zimbabwe, one of the eight nations where The Tide ® shares the Gospel. Don Shenk, director of The Tide ministry, was born in Zimbabwe, then Rhodesia, and his brother and missionary parents still live there. “The people of Zimbabwe have been on a roller coaster ride of unrest,” Shenk said. “But now they have reason to celebrate. Soon after President Mugabe’s resignation was announced, my family members sent videos of Zimbabweans singing and dancing in the streets. We praise God for the fresh start for these wonderful people. “While many Zimbabweans identify as Christian and enjoy religious freedom, a large number still participate in traditional African religious practices like ancestral spirit worship and witchcraft,” Shenk added. “Even though this African nation has been fairly extensively evangelized, many more sti
