Zimbabwe’s Pastors Share Hope of Christ Amid COVID-19 Restrictions

Churches around the world are experiencing social distancing measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and worship centers in Zimbabwe are no different. In fact, Zimbabwean pastors are at an even greater disadvantage because they may not have the technology to broadcast virtual services or recorded sermons. But we’re helping to provide a path for pastors to reach their congregations over the airwaves. “Pastors are unable to meet with their congregations in person due to the coronavirus lockdown, and many do not have the means to film, record or broadcast church services or messages,” says Director Don Shenk. “Therefore, The Tide studio has enabled these pastors to record sermons and prayers to share with their parishioners at a time when they are desperately needed.” Reports are showing that many Zimbabweans identify as Christian, but a large number still participate in traditional African religious practices, including ancestral spirit worship and witchcraft. Even though Zimbabwe has b

Christianity Is Unwelcome in Pakistan, But People Need the Hope of Jesus

The nation of Pakistan is overwhelmingly influenced by Islam, with 98.86% of the population Muslim, 0.88% Christian and 0.26% Hindu. But, for those who do not follow the Muslim traditions, life can be difficult. In early 2020, we began broadcasting the Good News of Jesus Christ in two languages in Pakistan—Pashtu and Saraiki. “Today, thanks to a partnership with the Pakistani Christian Recording Ministry, The Tide ministry is helping to air two programs every week for these people groups,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “The programming not only reaches new believers in Christ who have very few Christian resources in Pakistan and little to no support system, but also potential believers who have yet to hear what Jesus has done for them. The ‘Taza Galona,’ or ‘Fresh Flowers’ program, airs in the Pashtu language every Friday morning, while the ‘Hikmet de Moti,’ ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ program is broadcast each Monday morning to Saraiki listeners.” The Pashtun people in northern Pakistan

Introduction of the Gospel in Pakistan Was a Two-Year Journey

Thanks to a new partnership—and a two-year process—in Pakistan, we are now sharing the hope of Jesus Christ over the airwaves in the Pashtu and Saraiki languages. The journey to begin these broadcasts that are reaching thousands with the unwavering truth of the Bible began two years ago. Radio programming in partnership with the Pakistani Christian Recording Ministry began in early 2020. “In 2018, we identified four unreached people groups in Pakistan that do not have Gospel radio programming available in their own language,” said Don Shenk. “Our vision is to be sharing the Gospel with all four groups in their own language within the next five years. In 2020, God opened a door for us to take a major step forward by enabling our partner ministry in Pakistan to recruit ministry teams to record and broadcast radio programs and conduct discipleship activities in two of those languages.” One of these teams is working with and reaching out to the Pashtun people who live in the northern are

Christians in Pakistan Face Added Difficulty During COVID-19 Crisis Because of Faith

People in every corner of the globe have been faced with incredible burden and uncertainty this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic. But some in Pakistan have encountered even greater difficulties because of their faith in Jesus. Just a few months ago, we began broadcasting the Good News of Jesus Christ in two languages in Pakistan—Pashtu and Saraiki. “It’s been an exciting development to share the hope of Christ with these precious people in Pakistan,” said Director Don Shenk. “But unfortunately, there have been reports in other areas of Pakistan that Christians have been denied aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, simply because of their faith in Jesus. Many Christians around the world face difficulties, persecution, torture and death because they are in the religious minority. When we hear about Christians suffering further during this global crisis, it’s all the more tragic and heart-breaking.” International Christian Concern has been documenting instances of Pakistani Christia

Two New Languages in Pakistan

This season has marked an exciting development for The Tide® , which is now broadcasting the Good News of Jesus Christ in 27 languages. The two newest languages reach the people of Pakistan, where The Tide ministry is recording and sharing radio programming in the Pashtu and Saraiki languages. “For nearly 75 years, The Tide ministry has been honored to share the Gospel of Jesus around the world,” said Don Shenk. “Our mission has been to creatively share the Good News through multiple media avenues. So we’re thrilled and honored to be working with the Pakistani Christian Recording Ministry for a partnership that will reach many new people for Jesus Christ in Pakistan. “The Pashtun people in northern Pakistan areas have lower literacy but are strict about traditions,” Shenk added. “Likewise, the people we’re reaching through the Saraiki language, who live in the southern regions of Punjab province, are also heavily influenced by Islam. That’s why it’s so important, just as in every r

Gospel Radio Programs in Albania Reach Listeners in Other Countries and Impact Muslims

Many believers around the world find hope and wisdom in the Gospel radio programs broadcast by The Tide®. But beyond those who already put their faith and trust in Jesus, the programming also reaches those who may be far from Christ or not yet introduced to His love and grace. “The Tide ministry has been honored to share the Gospel in Albania for the past five years, first over radio airwaves in partnership with Radio 7, then through media players, live streaming and, most recently, through a television program geared toward young people,” said Don Shenk. “We hear from many Christians who are touched by the content of the programs, especially in a country where Islam and atheism are present. So it is amazing when we hear from unbelievers that they have been uplifted or are now putting their faith in Christ after listening to a Tide partner pastor on the radio.” One of these listeners is Skerdi, whose testimony also shows the far-reaching impact of The Tide programming. “I have be

Helping Albanian Parents Through Difficult Situations

The COVID-19 global pandemic has forced people into isolation worldwide, including in Albania, where we have shared the Gospel over the airwaves since 2015. “But when we open our hearts to the Gospel, we are never alone,” said Director Don Shenk. “Christ is always with us, to the end of time, and all of us at The Tide ministry are praying for every listener in every corner of the world who is going through difficulty—whether sickness, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or feelings of isolation, worry or fear.” Like in many other countries, schools and churches in Albania remain closed, activities have been cancelled, any many families are experiencing unprecedented challenges. Amid all this, however, many are finding hope through a program called “Sipas Fjales”—meaning “According to the Word”—which airs through The Tide ministry throughout parts of Albania and Kosovo—and beyond due to online efforts and media downloads. Easter Greetings

Image
As we bring you this Easter greeting on behalf of The Tide ministry we encourage you to spend time meditating on the following few verses: While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (Mar

‘Life’s Answers’ Reaches People of Thailand Online

For the past two years, The Tide has shared the Gospel in Thailand in the Isaan language, spoken by 19 million people throughout the Buddhist nation. The Tide ministry’s presence in Thailand was significant, as it marked the 25th broadcast language for the global organization. The Tide ministry’s work in Thailand began in 2017 with 45-minute programs that included music, testimonies and passages from the Bible. “Residents of villages in Thailand received storyteller devices so they could listen to the programs in their own language,” saidThe Tide Director Don Shenk. “Now, however, The Tide is branching out to reach even more people in new ways. Thirty-two episodes of the ‘Life’s Answers’ program have been shortened to 30 minutes and are currently available on YouTube and Facebook. Shorter Bible stories, about four to seven minutes in length, are also being posted and will allow for an entire new audience to hear the message of the Gospel and the hope of Christ.” The Tide program

Listeners of Devotionals and Programs Reach Across Borders to Share Gospel with Others

Those searching for the truth of the Gospel in Thailand have a new way to be uplifted, thanks to our daily devotionals. Recently, The Tide ministry began sharing the “Yang Kap Prajao,” or “Walking with God,” daily devotionals online and via social media in Thailand. Recorded in the Isaan language, the 7- to 10-minute daily devotionals are available on the social media app called “Line,” which is Japan’s largest social network that has spread into neighboring countries. Director Don Shenk said the growth of the devotionals has been exciting because users and listeners are sharing the resources with many others. “One of our new subscribers to the Line app thanked us for the daily devotional,” Shenk said. “She is a Lao believer in Korea who is reaching out to Isaan workers in a Thai factory there, which is possible because Lao and Isaan are very similar linguistically. She added that she has had the opportunity to share the Gospel with up to 36 people at a time!” Shenk added that this
