Helping Albanian Parents Through Difficult Situations

The COVID-19 global pandemic has forced people into isolation worldwide, including in Albania, where we have shared the Gospel over the airwaves since 2015. “But when we open our hearts to the Gospel, we are never alone,” said Director Don Shenk. “Christ is always with us, to the end of time, and all of us at The Tide ministry are praying for every listener in every corner of the world who is going through difficulty—whether sickness, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or feelings of isolation, worry or fear.” Like in many other countries, schools and churches in Albania remain closed, activities have been cancelled, any many families are experiencing unprecedented challenges. Amid all this, however, many are finding hope through a program called “Sipas Fjales”—meaning “According to the Word”—which airs through The Tide ministry throughout parts of Albania and Kosovo—and beyond due to online efforts and media downloads. Aleksander from Shkoder in Albania reports that he is ...

Easter Greetings

Image
As we bring you this Easter greeting on behalf of The Tide ministry we encourage you to spend time meditating on the following few verses: While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in me...

‘Life’s Answers’ Reaches People of Thailand Online

For the past two years, The Tide has shared the Gospel in Thailand in the Isaan language, spoken by 19 million people throughout the Buddhist nation. The Tide ministry’s presence in Thailand was significant, as it marked the 25th broadcast language for the global organization. The Tide ministry’s work in Thailand began in 2017 with 45-minute programs that included music, testimonies and passages from the Bible. “Residents of villages in Thailand received storyteller devices so they could listen to the programs in their own language,” saidThe Tide Director Don Shenk. “Now, however, The Tide is branching out to reach even more people in new ways. Thirty-two episodes of the ‘Life’s Answers’ program have been shortened to 30 minutes and are currently available on YouTube and Facebook. Shorter Bible stories, about four to seven minutes in length, are also being posted and will allow for an entire new audience to hear the message of the Gospel and the hope of Christ.” The Tide program...

Listeners of Devotionals and Programs Reach Across Borders to Share Gospel with Others

Those searching for the truth of the Gospel in Thailand have a new way to be uplifted, thanks to our daily devotionals. Recently, The Tide ministry began sharing the “Yang Kap Prajao,” or “Walking with God,” daily devotionals online and via social media in Thailand. Recorded in the Isaan language, the 7- to 10-minute daily devotionals are available on the social media app called “Line,” which is Japan’s largest social network that has spread into neighboring countries. Director Don Shenk said the growth of the devotionals has been exciting because users and listeners are sharing the resources with many others. “One of our new subscribers to the Line app thanked us for the daily devotional,” Shenk said. “She is a Lao believer in Korea who is reaching out to Isaan workers in a Thai factory there, which is possible because Lao and Isaan are very similar linguistically. She added that she has had the opportunity to share the Gospel with up to 36 people at a time!” Shenk added that this...

Our Response to COVID-19

With confirmed cases of Covid-19 now recorded in almost every country of the world, we are all to some degree getting swept up in the global focus on this single issue. I can’t recall anything else in my lifetime that has created such widespread uncertainty and apprehension in society, and I am extremely grateful for the hope we have in the person and work of Jesus.  God’s Word is filled with encouraging promises of His incredible love, affirmations of hope, admonitions to stand firm in our faith, and reminders that because our Almighty heavenly Father is watching over us, we do not need to live in fear.  We are grateful that as a religious organization The Tide office is currently exempt from the mandated closures, enabling us to continue the administrative tasks associated with sharing this message of hope in Christ with those who are suffering around the globe. I also want to reassure you that our ministry “boots on the ground” are committed to persevere in the face of chal...

Daily Devotionals find New Home on Social Media in Thailand

Everyone needs a daily dose of hope and truth from above—no matter which language they speak. Recorded in the Isaan language, the 7- to 10-minute daily devotional is available on the social media app called “Line,” which is Japan’s largest social network that has spread into neighboring countries. “One exciting development is that The Tide partners in Thailand are working with the New Zealand Baptists on the project to both share the cost of the Line app, as well as reach more followers,” said Don Shenk. “The following for the ‘Yang Kap Prajao,’ or ‘Walking with God,’ devotionals is growing. In fact, a local pastor in the Roiet province, as well as another in Ubon Ratchathani province, send it daily to the believers in their churches.” Because the technology of the app allows listeners and subscribers to hear the content from anywhere, those outside Thail...

Seekers Meetings in India Reach Those with a Hunger for Jesus Christ

Despite “ extreme ” levels of persecution for India’s 66 million Christians, people are hungry for the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Tide® has worked in India for more than four decades—since 1978—and reaches listeners in a variety of ways besides radio programming in eight Indian languages. One method, said The Tide Director Don Shenk, is through successful and long-running Seekers Meetings, where people in India can gather to learn more about Christ. “For many years, Seekers Meetings have served as a way for The Tide partners to get up and close and personal with potential believers in India,” Shenk said. “Many are curious, but at the same time, hesitant. The largely Hindu nation can be a challenging place for Christians to live, work and worship. Still, those interested in meeting Jesus continue to gather, with many making the decision to call Him their Personal Savior.” To close out 2019, eight Seekers Meetings led by our partners in the Chhattisgarh and Odisha stat...
