The Tide® Gospel Radio Ministry Planning Bus Trip to Museum of the Bible

We are planning a trip of its own to the nation’s capital! This fall, The Tide ministry is hosting a bus trip to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., where participants will learn the origins of the Bible so they can more ably share the gospel here at home. “For The Tide ministry, creatively sharing the gospel on continents around the world is our mission,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “But intimately knowing God’s Word and sharing Jesus’ saving grace and eternal hope in our own backyards is the duty of all Christians. We pray this trip to the Museum of the Bible will open our eyes to the wonders of God’s Word, enable us to bring the Savior to life for others and to never lose sight of the fact that people everywhere need Jesus.” On Oct. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., travelers will engage in a self-guided walking tour of the Museum of the Bible and enjoy an evening meal together on the way home. Cost is $95 per person and includes transportation from Chambe...

Nigerians Facing Daily Violence Need Hope of Christ

Violence is nearly an everyday occurrence in Nigeria, with many living in fear of attacks on their farms, homes or churches. Reports vary as to who is responsible for the attacks, as well as who is being targeted specifically, whether farmers or Christians. Regardless of the reasoning behind the violence, The Tide ®  reaches the people of Nigeria with the Good News and saving hope of Jesus Christ. In 2009, The Tide ministry began broadcasting radio programming in Nigeria in the Efik language, and since then, has added programming in 10 more languages. These programs have the potential to be heard by millions of people who do not yet know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. An important aspect of The Tide ministry in Nigeria is the “Radios for Nigeria” project. As people give toward this project, The Tide ministry places radios in villages throughout Nigeria, where a third of the population lives below the poverty line. Through these radios many people are now hearing...

A Renewed Mind

Our minds are exposed to a lot such as the internet and television, but God desires that we keep our minds clean. Paul says let your mind be renewed (Romans 12:3). The eye: What we see feeds into our minds and affects our subconscious mind. The ear:   What we hear affects us as well. What music do you listen to? Does it add value or it pollutes your mind? Association : Friends, family or anyone we stick around affects what we think about. It’s said says, association determines assimilation. “Stop being deceived: ‘Wicked friends lead to evil ends.’”  (1 Corinthians 15:33 ISV) Belief: The most important factor is what we ultimately believe. For you to grow your faith you have to feed on the word of God. The word says, “…faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10: 17). 1 Peter 2:2 says “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”. Finally, “ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of l...

Reaching Nigerians Who Face Difficulty and Violence Daily

News of violence against Christians has made frightening and disturbing headlines lately, but there are also many other challenges Nigerians face in their everyday lives.  The Tide ®  has been broadcasting programming in Nigeria for nearly 10 years. Through 11 different languages, the people of Nigeria can learn more about Christ and give their lives over to Him. “With more than 470 different languages spoken in Nigeria, the opportunity to share the Gospel in this highly populated country is incredible,” said Director Don Shenk. “Many Nigerians don’t currently have the opportunity to hear about Jesus in their own language. These people face many serious and grave challenges, from extreme poverty and economic hardship to violence and conflicts between ethnic groups. Despite all that faces these precious people, what is true will always be true—and that is the message of the Gospel.” In 2009, The Tide ministry began broadcasting in Nigeria in the Efik language, and since then...

Finding True Safety

As human beings, we make choices daily.  These choices could on small things such as choosing what to wear, friends up to greater things such as careers, relationships and other earthly activities that generally improve our lives. Yes, all these usually determine what becomes of us whilst here on earth. Then the biggest question becomes: Is your life safe when you die? Have you made that choice? Ask yourself these questions: If Jesus Christ comes now are you ready to meet Him? Have you connected the true Source of life? Do you have the true peace of God? If you die now, where will you spend eternity? Remember, your eternal destiny is based on a personal decision. In the Bible, John 3: 16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. And then John 3: 36 further goes on to say,  “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not...

Young People Excited About Jesus in Kosovo

When a congregation from a church in Gjakova, Kosovo, traveled to a town square to worship God and pray, they had no idea who might join them. But when a group of interested teenagers flocked to the church group, doors were opened for young lives to be changed by Christ. The Tide ® has been working with local churches in Kosovo for more than two years, including with a pastor who broadcasts Gospel radio programming and leads a church near the city of Klina. “This church planned an outreach event in Klina recently and were heading to the main square to worship and share the Gospel with whoever approached, but what happened next exceeded everyone’s expectations,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “Just as they finished sharing the vision for Klina, they started to pray and worship, and many young people from the nearby school jumped in, wondering what was going on and drawn in by the music and prayers.” Shenk added that the group prayed with the teens, told them about God and opene...

Looking into the Word

Image
Reading: James 1:19-27   We look into the mirror and then so soon forget. We are searched by the scripture and so soon forget, we are moved by a sermon–but then go our ways, “one to his farm, another to his merchandise.”   James makes his point clear. The Word of the Lord, or the minister, may draw the portrait. And it may be accurate enough. It may be frightening and sometimes embarrassing. But then so soon we go our ways and forget to do anything about it. Hearers but not doers of the work. We are like a man that promises to pay his bill and yet never does. However, the man that looks into the perfect law of liberty and then continues therin, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds, and whatever he does shall prosper.   We must do at once what we know to do. There must be no delay and no forgetting. Most people know what to do to become a Christian, and most Christians know what to do to become better Christian...

My Heart for The Tide: Jonathan Lloyd

Image
My walk with Jesus began when I was a five-year-old who was convicted of my sin and wanted to be forgiven.  I was blessed with a rich heritage of faith, and as I grew older, I also grew in my understanding of and commitment to Jesus Christ.  After college I worked as an engineer, but felt a nudge from the Lord to gain discipleship training and ministry experience.  I joined what was then Kingdom Building Minstries’ summer discipleship program in 1999 where I had my first experience in overseas short-term missions, spending a month in Thailand teaching English as a practical mission outreach.  During this time, I sensed God’s calling to future mission service. I returned to my engineering job at the end of the summer and then interned with KBM to help lead a team to China for a month in the summer of 2000.  During these trips, God confirmed in me a heart for reaching the nations with his love and a commitment to be obedient to participate in this great task....

Reaching Out to the Poor in Kosovo While Spreading the Gospel

We  have been partnering with local pastors and Christian groups in Kosovo for more than two years, and tangible impact is being felt. A pastor in Kosovo who broadcasts Gospel radio programming in partnership with The Tide ministry also leads a congregation in Gjakova. The group has expanded its outreach into the nearby town of Klina through contacts with radio listeners there. “Our partner pastor reports that the opportunities and the openness of people in Klina has surprised everyone,” said Director Don Shenk. “God has opened many doors and allowed our ministry partners to meet key and influential people, but also many poor families. This spring, a local church visited the director of Social Welfare in Klina and was provided with a list of 11 families in need. Soon after, they spent a day visiting these families and distributing food. Many were widows, orphans or sick, but all were in need of the love and care of Jesus.” The pastor in Kosovo also reported that three peo...

The Tide® Connects With Those Worshipping at Creation

Thousands of music fans and followers of Jesus gathered at Agape Farm in Mount Union, Pennsylvania, last week to hear from their favorite musicians, worship God and enjoy creation. For many years, The Tide ® has had a presence at the Creation Festival at the center of the Keystone State. And for the past several years, The Tide ministry has shared just how easy it is to share the Gospel with people around the world.   We  broadcast Gospel radio programming in 25 heart languages in eight nations on three continents. At Creation, the ministry shares that just $1 can reach 20 radio listeners with the Gospel. Last year, donations at Creation enabled more than 35,000 worldwide to hear the Gospel, and the exciting totals are still being tallied from last week.   “Year after year, The Tide ministry has enjoyed connecting with people who are worshipping the Creator and telling them how our partners and radio programming worldwide helps people in all corners of the glob...

New Bhatri Language Broadcaster for The Tide Gives Testimony of Life Change

The Tide ® recently began offering Gospel radio messages in the Bhatri language to a primitive people group in India, and the broadcaster of this new programming is sharing his testimony of life change. David was brought up in a Hindu family, and began listening to the Trans World Radio Christian programs on a radio his father had purchased. Slowly, David came understand there is a living God who can give him peace, and he was able to see the power of God that changed his life. Once he gave his life to Jesus, David attended Jharsuguda Bible College and earned a bachelor’s degree in theology. He began preaching the Gospel and planted several churches.   “The Tide ministry is blessed to be working with David, as he records programming in the Bhatri language for the Bhottada people in India,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “David is honored and thrilled to be the speaker of the Bhatri language for this people group so they can hear the Good News Radio Hour in partnershi...

Forgiveness

Image
Reading: Mark 11:22-26   There are two marks of a Christian–giving and forgiving. No one can become intimate with Christ and remain selfish. If one draws close to the Lord, his selfishness will disappear. You can generally know how close on is to the Lord by how unselfishly he lives. I have never known of any truly great Christian that lived selfishly.   And as for forgiveness, nothing that I know puts more sweetness deep down in the sould than forgiveness. An unforgiving spirit and bitterness go together. So the way to develop sweet Christian radiance is to be forgiving–not only when others may ask it, but before they ask–forgive. It was while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He has said, “If we forgive not, then we will not be forgiven.” If we forgive, God will forgive and then we can come boldly to a throne of grace. Ask for what you need and it shall be given to you.   Prayer: Lord, I do forgive my friends, family, _____. I leave any and all injuries with...

Who Are the Bhottada People of India?

The Bhottada people of India are a primitive group of farmers, and they have no radio programming in their own language—no way to hear about the hope, love and saving grace of Jesus Christ–until now.  The Tide ® is introducing Gospel programming in a new language—Bhatri—to reach this precious, and valued by God, people group in India. “The Bhottada tribes are agriculturists, so farming is their main source of livelihood, raising paddy rice in the wet lands of the region,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “Thus far, the Bhottada have never heard about how Jesus Christ can truly change their lives. Now, we have the chance to reach this people group in their own language, and it is an honor to carry out God’s command of spreading the Good News in this way.” The Bhottada people are animistic, meaning they attribute lifelike qualities and feelings to objects and items in nature, such as rivers, rocks and wind. The Tide partners created a relationship with the Bhottada tribe because...

God Sees All

Image
Reading: Psalms 139:1-12; 23-24 Some years ago I was a guest at a large orphanage near the city of Philadelphia, PA. The children sang for me. I have never forgotten it, “You Cannot Hide from God.” And no one can! Dark places are made light under his searching eye. God sees and knows the thoughts and the intents of the heart. The spirit is quick and powerful to discern in detail our motives. God sees our innermost being. That is where he inspects our motives, our inner secret desires, our meditations, our affections. Like Elisha’s fountain at Jericho, if the source is bitter the stream will be bitter. To cure the river you must heal the spring. Christ on Calvary purified the fountain of life and causes it to bring forth sweet water. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole. Break down every idol, cast out every foe, now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Amen. The post God Sees All appeared first on The Tide .

The Tide® Gives Listeners Strength to Declare Their Faith in Jesus in Buddhist Thailand

The mission of The Tide ®  is to creatively share the Good News of Jesus Christ worldwide through media and partnerships. This is exactly what’s happening in Thailand, where The Tide  shares the Gospel in the Isaan language, spoken by 19 million people. Although The Tide  focuses primarily on radio, the avenues to share the love and hope of Christ are varied in Thailand and include portable media players, audio and video, and social media. “Even though Thailand isn’t one of the countries currently being watched for Christian persecution, we know from the feedback of our listeners that they are facing some difficulties because of their faith in Jesus or even their interest in Christianity.” For example, partners of The Tide in Thailand shared that a Bible-believing husband and wife were among only about five Christians in their entire county. They had been very vocal in sharing their faith until their extended family joined together to pressure them to recant of their ...

Leave Sin Behind

Image
Reading: Isaiah 58:3-7 The men of Israel had many feasts and fasts which they observed. They thought that if they refrained from food either totally or partially, the Lord would be pleased with them. They found it easier to refrain from food than it was to stop sinning. In fact they had no real intention to break off their sins. The Lord was so displeased that he refused to dwell among them. He wanted them to cease to do evil and to learn to do well. Just saying they were going to do something wasn’t enough. He wanted change and action. This is the fast He calls for even now. To put away sin and wickedness. Not for a passing season, but for good! Prayer: Lord here and now, I confess and forsake every wicked thing I know. Deliver me from every sinful action and habit. In Christ’s name, Amen. The post Leave Sin Behind appeared first on The Tide .

Reaching New Believers in Thailand in Unconventional Ways

Less than 2 percent of the population in Thailand believes in Jesus, but The Tide ®  is hoping to grow this tiny yet significant group by reaching listeners in unconventional ways. Securing radio airtime in this predominantly Buddhist nation can be challenging, but we  have been impacting souls with the hope of Christ through audio Gospel recordings in the Isaan language, spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. Though not yet airing over a radio station, the “Life Answers” program is distributed and utilized on portable media players called Envoy or Storyteller devices. As more programs are produced by locals, plans are in the works to broadcast via radio as early as this summer. “The Tide ministry’s reach through these media players is having a noticeable impact,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “Our partners and workers on the ground in Thailand are also committed to making programming available in multiple media outlets, such as posting audio and video Bible stories a...

Nepali Christians Petition Government to Remove Anti-Conversion Law

Last fall, Christians in Nepal suffered a blow to their religious freedom when the government enacted an anti-conversion law that criminalizes Christians for sharing their faith in Jesus. Now, many Nepali Christians have signed a petition urging the government to remove the law, according to Mission Network News . A pastor in Nepal told the news outlet that the signing of the law has brought fear in the lives of Christians. The Tide ® has been producing and broadcasting weekly Christian programming in Nepal since 2004 with the airing of “Prasasta Jivan” which means “Abundant Life” in English. The program has the potential to reach over 19 million Nepali speaking people with the message that Jesus came to give them abundant life. “It’s concerning that more Nepali Christians are experiencing religious restrictions and even persecution,” said Director Don Shenk. “In fact, Nepal is No. 25 on this year’s World Watch List for Christian persecution, when it was not even listed in past ...

Deep Roots

Image
It’s that time of year now when those little yellow flowers start popping up here and there in my yard. Like so many other people, I’ll now be waging a continuous battle against the dandelions in my yard that will last the whole year from spring through summer and fall. Yes, I am making it sound like dandelions are my enemy, so what would you think if I told you I wanted to be like a dandelion?   You’d probably think I was crazy, but let me explain. I remember one particular spring day several years ago when my son and I were working at digging some stubborn dandelions out of a flower bed.   I had explained to my son the importance of getting the whole root out. As I dug down around one root I could see it getting narrower and narrower, but then I came to a point where the thin root was attached to a thick, leftover root from the previous year.   It was a perfect example to show my son how a dandelion from last year was able to come back because it had not been comple...
